Introduction

In your Field Study 1, you have learned that action research is a dynamic process that is categorized under applied research. It is focused on solving practitioners’ local problems wherein an action plan plays a significant role in the execution of such work (Johnson & Christensen, 2020). Yes, you heard and read it right - for a teacher’s life, conducting action research is an advocacy since the primary purpose of it is to improve school practices and solve classroom-based teaching and learning related issues to find applicable ways and means to address existing or present issue that usually bother practitioners’ execution of their job. So, let us now put into practice the theories that you have learned by preparing an action plan that will serve as your guide and frame of reference in doing Classroom-Based Action Research (CBAR).

You can enrich your knowledge on how you go about preparing your action research plan by watching “YouTube”, surfing credible online website, browsing and reading vital sources, eBooks, books, journals and research publications. Please observe the following: (1) etiquette in doing activities; (2) proper acknowledgement of references and sources; and (3) intellectual property rights.

Do you consider your proposed action research plan beneficial in coming up with an excellent CBAR? Justify

Yes, since classroom-based action research (CBAR) often entails teacher undertaking collaborative, evidence-based investigations into their own classroom routines and relationships in order to better understand and improve the quality and fairness of their classroom practices. With careful execution, our action research can assist instructors in meeting the demands of their students’ reading skills, which is beneficial in coming up with an excellent CBAR that is useful to the teacher and students.

Directions: Below is the list of the parts of an action research. After preparing your action research plan, the next step is to carry out your plan. Prepare the different parts of your CBAR based on what you have planned. Focus only on the indicated parts. Other parts not included will be done/ accomplished during the Internship period. The preliminaries and other parts will be included in your final write up.

Part 1: Introduction

We pre-service teachers our aiming to implement DEPED mandate which is to make every pupils a proficient readers. Recognizing that there are still many Filipino learners that are struggling to meet the learning standards in early language, literacy, and numeracy, the Department of Education (DepEd) has strongly encouraged all elementary and secondary public schools to intensify their advocacy particularly for reading. In an effort to strengthen the reading proficiency of every learner and help nurture a culture of reading which considered a requisite skill in all content areas, DepEd announced the Hamon: Bawat Bata Bumasa (3Bs) initiative.

Part 2: Problem Identification

We aims to address the needs of the struggling readers and to provide them enrichment activities to further enhance their reading skills particularly their reading comprehension. The reading project will also serve as an avenue to ensure that every child is a proficient and independent reader in their grade level.

The action research plan we aim is anchored in the target of the Department of Education to intensify the reading activities in the school to achieve quality education.

Part 3: Generation of Alternative Solution

Educate the parents on how to be a reading teacher at home;
Provide reading materials that can be used by struggling, frustration, instructional, and independent readers.
Improve the academic performance of the learners who are struggling in reading and comprehension.

Part 4: The Plan of Action

· Series of Orientation to teach the parents on how to teach reading at home.

a. Orientation 1: The Role of Parents in Reading Development and Importance of Reading at Home

b. Orientation 2: Implementation of after school- reading Program-(at least 1-2 hours reading after answering/doing the learning tasks in the modules.

· Provision of reading materials to parents suitable to the needs of the learners, materials are compiled through the help of Key teachers and reading coordinators.
· Conduct assessment to gauge the improvement of the learners reading skills.

Reflection

Using one adjective, describe your experience as a group in accomplishing the activity in general and in writing the four parts, from introduction to the plan of action, of your classroom-based action research in particular. Why did you choose that adjective?

The most appropriate adjective to sum up how we felt about this activity in general is "fulfilled." Lots of challenges in communication, misunderstanding and struggles while we are working this, but despite of all challenges, we accomplish this activity with fulfillment to our faces also to our heart to work what is worth for the learners, we hope we can help the learners bring back their excitement to drive their study well and achieve their academic goals, as we face our situation of pandemic, we will fulfill our dreams in life.
