Peer Mentors are a group of students trained in school to offer advice and support to other students.
Peer Mentors do not offer the same level of support as a counsellor however they are trained in a way which is valuable to supporting student’s wellbeing at FBEC.
Peer Mentors take part in one full day of training and are continually supported throughout their role by staff.
Peer Mentors develop advanced communication skills, are taught to listen effectively to issues and respond appropriately. They offer guidance and support whilst acting as a role model. All Peer Mentors are taught about confidentiality and safeguarding.
Peer Mentors have the ability to motivate and encourage students and are available to help students throughout the week.
Help can take the form of academic or emotional support.
Peer Mentors are paired with younger students and hold regular meetings.
If you feel you would benefit from speaking to a Peer Mentor please speak to Mrs Corner or your Learning Coordinator, who will link you to a peer mentor.
