Fiskekort

Quebec - Fishing licence
From Quote Ahmic Air:
You may register for and purchase a NT fishing licence online through the government of Northwest
Territories website https://www.gov.nt.ca/ecc/en/services/get‐fishing‐licence/buying‐fishing‐licence‐
online. or when you are in Yellowknife you can visit the local Department of Environment and Climate
Change (ECC) government office Monday‐Friday to register in person. Their office is a short walk from
our Floatbase. If you have time I recommend getting the licence in person at the ECC office as although
limited there are some wildlife displays and you will be able to obtain the most recent information on fire
bans, etc.. In April 2023 the ECC was formed from two former government departments; Lands and
Environment and Natural Resources (ENR); you may find a lot of information still references the “ENR”.
A Thelon River trip takes you within the borders of Nunavut as well and if you intend to fish while in
Territory of Nunavut (NU) you will require a NU fishing licence. At this time there is not an online method
of obtaining a NU Fishing Licence.
These licences are a little harder to come by and the method seems to change depending on staffing
within the various NU government departments and government regions. The Nunavut Government site
states that licences are available from the Department of Environment or Fisheries and Oceans Canada,
most sport fishing lodges, sporting goods, hardware and convenience stores, as well as certain offices of
the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The difficulty if the forementioned will be places you could visit in
person at the end of your trip as you will be entering the territory from a remote location.
We suggest that you attempt to contact a Conservation Office as a starting place depending on the river
system you are traveling down you can try Baker Lake – 867‐793‐2944, Kugluktuk ‐ 867‐982‐7450, Gjoa
Haven – 867‐360‐7605, and/or Chesterfield Inlet – 867‐898‐9130. Depending on the conservation office
you choose to contact it may not be fully staffed and/or officers could be in the field so it could take
several attempts to call but they should be able to take payment mail, scan, or fax a copy of your NU
fishing licence to you. It may take bit of effort to get through, don’t leave this as a last moment thing. A
copy of the NU Sport Fishing Regs can be found at this site: https://www.gov.nu.ca/en/environment‐and‐
wildlife/sport‐fishing‐guide.
