This golf course fairway view home faced west, exposing its back deck to hot sun in the summer and rain and snow in the winter. A step down in the middle of the deck made for an awkward entertaining area. The homeowners wanted an outdoor space they could comfortably enjoy year-round that would also add architectural interest to the home exterior—and Sockeye Construction Corporation delivered.

Sockeye replaced high-maintenance wood deck and railing as well as the unsightly lattice and shrubs. In their place, the team installed a new cable railing along with no-maintenance composite decking and concrete pavers below to further expand the outdoor area.

They used black powder-coated steel columns, eliminating the warping issues commonly seen when using large wood columns. Then they used tight-knot tongue-and-groove pine on the ceiling, stained to match the timber-framing.

They installed a commercial-grade radiant heater on the ceiling beam to keep the space warm during the fall/winter. An automated sunshade provides relief from the sun during the spring/summer.

Professional grade appliances, including refrigerator drawers and a 36” gas grill with hood vent are inset into the durable Dekton counter-top and backsplash. A gas fireplace with Sierra stone mountain ledge surround provides a cozy space to relax and enjoy the fairway views.

Congratulations, Sockeye Construction Corporation! What was once a rarely used back deck is now an outdoor living space that can be enjoyed year-round.
