Teacher : Today I am going to discuss about the (1) “Artificial Classifications of Animals” . It is classified (2) On the Basis of Mode of Nutrition, (3) On the Basis of Body Covering and (4) On the Basis of Mode of Reproduction.
Animals are heterotrophs and they depend on plants or animals for their food. Depending on the food habits, animals are of the following types. (5) Herbivores – Animals eat plants or parts of the plant. (6) Examples – Cow, Goat, Deer, Elephant, etc (7) Carnivores – Animals eat flesh of other animals. (8) Examples – Tiger, Lion, Leopard, etc (9) Omnivores – Animals eat plant and plant products, as well as flesh of animals. (10) Examples – Bear, Human being, etc (11) Parasites – Certain animals live on or inside the body of other organisms and draw their nourishment from them. (12) Examples – Tapeworm, Roundworm and Malarial Parasite.
On the Basis of Body Covering – (13) Scale on Body. (14) Examples – Snake, Lizard and Fish. (15) Features on the Body. (16) Examples – Parrot, Eagle, Pigeon, etc (17) Hair on the Body. (18) Examples – Man, Monkey, Horse, Yalk, etc.
On the Basis of Mode of Reproduction – (19) By Division. (20) Example – Hydra. (21) Laying Eggs – (22) Examples – Birds, Lizard and Tortoise. (23) Eggs Hatching within the Parents’ Body – the embryos develop inside the mother’s body – called Oviparous Animals. (24) Examples – Fish and Amphibians. (25) Giving Birth to Live Babies – the embryo develops within the mother’s body by deriving nutrition from the mother’s body – called Viviparous Animals. (26) Examples - Higher beings, Cows or Dogs.
