Aesthetics

Eaton has many beautiful vistas. The views from Foss Mountain and the view of the Little White Church across Crystal Lake from the Eaton town beach come to mind. At town meeting in 1974 Potter Road was designated an official scenic road from Route 153 to the Conway town line. In 1993 the townspeople approved another scenic road starting at the Snowvillage Inn and going up Stewart Raod to Foss Mountain Road, then along Foss Mountain Road to Willis Bean Road, and finally allong Willis Bean Road to the driveway to Peddlars End.

In 2021 Eaton set up a new Ridgeline Protection Overlay Zone as part of its zoning ordinance that protects the aesthetic quality of the undeveloped hillsides seen from Route 153 and the Brownfield Road. These protected ridgelines are shown on the map below as well as the two scenic roads. Also marked on the map is the scenic meadow seen to the east of Route 153 when driving into Eaton from the north. This meadow is protected as a wetland.
