Week 11 ETHICAL AND LEGAL ISSUES

Schools and teachers play a critical role in promoting digital ethics and responsible technology use among students to become responsible digital citizens with ethics and integrity (Redmond, et al 2018). Through my researching around digital ethics and cyberbullying something that I didn't realize was the serious risks children are under from new apps and digital technologies through a breach of safety through video or audio leaking of information (Buchanan, 2019). This is a very difficult position for schools and teachers as we are trying to continually promote digital technologies to help students and to create innovative and fresh lessons, but these new technologies could be putting students at risk without them knowing it (Redmond, et al 2018).

I was always aware of the severe nature of cyberbullying, but the number of ways children can experience bullying online now is staggering (Kaluarachchi et al 2020). This is why digital literacy and online ethics training are online essential to help students understand what appropriate behaviors are online and discourage them from engaging in cyberbullying (Redmond, et al 2018). Teachers can create positive learning environments in the classroom and online by reinforcing students' digital literacy skills, enabling them to critically evaluate information and to avoid negative behaviours such as cyber bullying  and harassment(Kaluarachchi,et al 2020).
