Same list!
I'll keep writing this: If Oko is in your colors, play it. The last few leagues I have been a little disappointed with Path, so "3rd Path" fell off of the list of things that just barely didn't make the cut. It has been replaced with "3rd Ouphe" and "1st Evolution."
The closest cards to being cut are the Manglehorn (haven't cast it except as a shatter), the Bird, the Breeding Pool, and the maindeck Vines.
The closest cards that didn't make the cut are 2nd Plains, 2nd Bird, 4th Horizon Land, 3rd Ouphe, 1st Evolution, and Devout Lightcaster.
2-2 (4-5). Not a great showing, but I guess it's a 3-2 if you count opponent disconnecting. Also had some really poor plays vs Storm and Burn. Which you can read about!
(Bye)
OXO Shadow T5, T7 Lifetime 5-12 vs Shadow (but on a 4 match winstreak!)
XX Storm Lifetime 2-1 vs Storm
XX Burn Lifetime 17-14 vs Burn
OO GW Eldrazi T3, T7 Lifetime 2-0 vs non-black Eldrazi
This is another A+ Once Upon a Time hand. The fact that this Once Upon a Time is probably one of the combo pieces or worst-case a dork makes this hand excellent. If it was just a bird or a land (which is what they replaced) that would be more consistent, but less upside. Keep.
Opponent disconnected and conceded the match. Hm. Okay.
We are getting stronger in this matchup because of Oko and legitimate sideboard considerations.
Yup. This hand is fine, as are most hands with T2 Druid and anything else relevant.
Druid is lost to Thoughtseize; Once Upon a Time is Shalai, and Noble gets Pushed. I lose Vizier to Thoughtseize and the other Once Upon a Time is a Druid.
Then I draw double Lunge, and murder my opponent from an empty board on T5.
Postmortem Lunge is a special, special card.
-1 Bird (Always), -2 Vizier (They Answer Everything), -2 Once (Long Games), -2 Lunge (Non-Combo Games)
+2 Path (High-Value Creatures), +4 Veil (Removal), +1 Colossus (Monoblack)
This is close to the best possible non-Veil hand.
Inquisition takes Noble (!!) and Thoughtseize takes Path. They play T2 5/5 Shadow and T3 hit for 16, and I have to spend T2 on Call. They have another removal spell so I die T4. T3 Oko on the draw was too slow against someone hitting me for 16 on T3.
A hand with a Veil of Summer?!?!?! Keep
T1 Veil the Inquisition and draw another Veil (!!!!!)
I trade Veil + Noble for Push + Stubborn Denial, which isn't great.
Anyway we get to play the late game with a Chameleon Colossus against a Death's Shadow.
Opponent's battlerage trying to push a 9/9 trample doublestrike over my 6/6 pro black does not work very well.
12 of the 18 damage has to be assigned to the Colossus. I win T7.
People on the discord have been worrying about this matchup. I haven't seen it much.
Okay Once Upon a Time, this is your time to shine.
I'm not sure what to take here. I have a lot of mana already, and a Druid from Call.
Against Storm though, I need T3 Shalai.
I play Giver Noble Noble to try to have Giver + Shalai down on my T3. I think that's the right line. But I don't get a T3.
+3 Veil +2 Path
-1 Birds -2 Once (???) -1 Lunge (?????????) -1 Oko (?????????)
ok! I'm not thrilled about it, to be clear.
I play this very well in the midgame, getting a Ranger-Captain which is a clock and a lock piece. I use it to counter the front half of Past in Flames, and then with the opponent at 8 and me tilted over not having drawn a third land by then, I tap out to increase the clock instead of holding up second Path.
I rightfully die.
In conclusion I think it's fine to board out all the Okos there. The opponent isn't going to tap out for bear very often.
The Burn matchup gets better and better.
This might be a Once Upon a Time trap. I kept it.
Opponent's Goblin Guide reveals Oko , so I let the draw step happen.
Interesting spot. I decide that we might be able to beat double bolt from the opponent, and play Oko, chump with Giver, and don't fetch.
Opponent indeed has double bolt (which we would beat) but also Eidolon (so never mind.
-2 Lunge -1 Call -2 Vizier -1 Bird
+2 Forgetender +1 Firewalker +2 Path +1 Caterpillar
This hand is acceptable vs Burn. :)
Holy crap I played this game terribly.
On T3 I have active Giver and Forgetender, with Oko Finale Ballista in hand. I call for Firewalker instead of Druid. This is huge punt.
Anyway it's still a Firewalker, so I survive a bit longer.
Here is the critical combat step. I attack with Firewalker because I figure opponent's life total matters here -- but attacking with Firewalker puts me dead to Bolt (face) + Swiftspear, which is what the opponent has.
Attack with your Forgetenders when you know you will be sacrificing them.
I don't understand the appeal of this deck; I guess it makes T2 TKS very consistently. Okay, I get it.
Hopefully opponent has a lot of Stoneforge Mystic draws since that card is bad.
Yup!
Opponent in on the play which means they play the terrifying
Turn 3
Batterskull
Win T3.
+2 Path +1 Caterpillar
-1 Birds -1 Lunge -Once
Yup
Once is Shalai, and we play T1 Giver T2 Druid.
I lose my combo to a Thought-Knot Seer, so we play a long Gavony Township game. Eventually (5 draws later) we topdeck one of our 11 remaining copies of Vizier (5 draws at 11 hits in 48 cards is 75%) and win T7.
3-2.
I punted a game against Burn with a bad attack and punted a game against Storm by tapping out for no reason. Deck's great.
