The purpose of this essay is to convince you that writing is great. Now, I know what you’re thinking: I don’t need to be convinced of something that’s obvious. But I’m going to prove to you that writing is great, so great that it’s almost unbelievable. I’ll share a few of my favorite things about writing and persuade you that it’s good for you, which will hopefully inspire you to share your favorite things about writing as well.
Writing is great. Even when I am writing poorly, I am improving. I am gaining a deeper understanding of the world around me. I am learning how to express myself better.
I love to write. It’s one of my greatest joys. I’ve always loved to write, ever since I was a small child. My mother used to read me stories before I went to sleep.
I love to write. I’m a writer. I love to write. I’m a writer.
Writing is a solitary endeavor, and to appreciate its value, you need to get away from the noise, the distractions, the interruptions. You need to immerse yourself in your words, to feel the silky texture of the pen on the paper, to relish the sound of the ink flowing freely from the nib. You need to quiet your mind, to slow down your thoughts, to submerge yourself in the words on the page. You need to be lost in your own world, if only for a little while.
