At 6 o'clock in the morning Bapu and his band now depleted due to illnesses, left Kareli and marched to the village of Gajera. They reached Gajera at 9 o'clock in the morning and they camped in a mango orchard. Bapu entrusted the ill to the support team volunteers and they were sent ahead to Bharuch to recuperate and rest and be ready to rejoin the march when it reached Bharuch. At 3.30 in the afternoon Bapu addressed a public meeting at Gajera. At 6 o'clock that evening the villagers gave a rousing send off to Bapu and his party. The merry marchers marched towards the village of Ankhi, many among the band would sing songs of patriotic fervour along the way. Khare Shastri would sing bhajans and strum his Ektara. The band of merry marchers competed to keep up with Bapu’s pace, many ran to keep up with the 61 year old.
He was given a grand welcome at Ankhi, at 9 o'clock in the evening he addressed the villagers. The government official of Ankhi had quit previously, but buckling under the pressure and threats from English officers he had withdrawn his resignation. At the meeting addressed by Bapu the repentant official came and apologized for his going back on his promise and submitted his resignation to Bapu and said this time he would die but not take back his resignation. Villagers of Ankhi were so annoyed by the pressure tactics of the officials that they had declared a social boycott of all government officials and anybody dealing with them or supplying them any material or any consumable would be find. The boycott was absolute, the officials came and complained to Bapu. They complained that the villagers were not even willing to sell them a box of matchsticks. Bapu advised the villagers he said you may boycott the officials and refuse to supply or sell to them and if they behaved rudely with you completely boycott them but if they are starving and if they beg for food from you, you must not deny it to them, ‘We must show compassion and charity towards our opponents and remember that they too are our friends’. That night Bapu and his marchers halted at Ankhi.
