After prayers at 6:00 am Gandhiji delivered a brief farewell message to the villagers, then they left for Dabhan, where they were going to rest for the afternoon. They reached Dabhan by 9:30 am, people had been waiting for them to arrive for more than an hour and half hour, there was huge crowd of villagers and villagers from around the place had gathered at Dabhan to listen to Gandhi. In the late afternoon, Bapu and his band left Dabhan and marched towards the town of Nadiad. The entire road was lined by thousands of people the marchers raised clouds of dust as they walked on the dusty roads, a film of dust covered the marchers from head to foot. The people shouted ‘Hail Mahatma!’ and ‘Victory to India!’ there was great enthusiasm in the air. To catch a glimpse of the marchers and their beloved leader, people climbed up trees, and roofs of homes, ladies peeped from windows and balconies of their home they showered the marchers with flower petals and everywhere there was great enthusiasm to welcome the mahatma. The entire population of Nadiad turned out to greet the marchers. As they entered Nadiad town it felt as if they would be engulfed in an ocean of humanity. Thousands of people had come from Ahmedabad to just catch a glimpse of Mahatma Gandhi as he marched on the historic salt march. Many merchants and textile magnates of Ahmedabad had motored down from Ahmedabad to Nadiad to welcome Gandhiji, amongst them was one of the leading mill owner Kasturbhai Lalbhai.
At Nadiad Bapu and his band were to stay at the Santram Mandir temple and ashram. Thousands upon thousands of people gathered at the place. It was an ocean of humanity. There were so many people gathered near the Santram Mandir temple finally it was decided that Bapu address them from a second floor balcony of the temple. The Santram Mahadev temple still stands and the balcony where Bapu stood and spoke from is proudly shown to the visitors. As everywhere Bapu accepted the resignations of government officials of the town and district. 200 people, citizens of Nadiad had registered their names as volunteers in the forthcoming salt satyagraha. Bapu welcomed them, praised their courage and spirit of sacrifice and warned them it wasn't going to be easy. After the speech Bapu and his band rested for the night at Santram Mahadev Mandir to be rested and refreshed before departure next morning.
