Today the prayer meeting was held at 4.20 in the morning, after having a glass of Goat’s milk they conducted the morning prayer and then the march began. A procession of over 25 thousand people marched with Bapu through the streets of Surat and the entire city again turned out to see the Mahatma pass by. The crowds increased massively, the procession swelled enormously in width and length. It was difficult to estimate the number of people, it resembled a river in spate. The route of the procession started from the Huntsburg station to Gulmandi, Chapriyashery, Ruva no tekro, Navapura Karwa Road, Navapurani, Kotsafil, Vadufalia, Ambaji road, Kabatiya Chakla, Gopipuram, Navsari Bagol, Navsari Bazar, Dindoli, Hathorathire. At Kotsafil the Karachi band of Mr. Himmat welcomed Bapu with martial music. At places on the arches they installed chakras running by electricity to stimulate the spinning of khadi. The people of the city accompanied Bapu right till the city limits at Dindoli. Mahadev Desai issued a warning to people wanting to reach Dandi. He told them that there were only 12 homes of very poor farmers living in the hamlet of Dandi, there were no facilities to accommodate many visitors, also there were no facilities to provide them with water or food and so he warned people to desist from rushing to Dandi. Once again the people of Dindoli gave a rousing reception to Bapu and his band along with those accompanying them. At Dindoli a huge crowd had gathered to listen to the afternoon speech of Bapu. There was an ongoing faction fight in Dindoli. There were two groups fighting each other. They had spent huge amount of money in litigation and appeals. Bapu warned them that what was required to be successful in winning the battle of freedom was unity, factional feuds and rivalries would only weaken the freedom movement. Police officials of ten villages submitted their resignations from their posts at the meeting.
Bapu and his group left Dindoli at 6’o clock in the evening to walk to the village of Vanz. Bapu and his merry marchers were given a grand welcome in the villages of Rania and Karvasa on the way, Bapu was forced to halt for 5 minutes at both the villages to accept the honor given to him by the Villagers. They reached Vanz at 8.30 pm. At 9.30 Bapu addressed the villagers. Mitthuben Petit attended this meeting too. An old lady gifted her ornate snuff box to Bapu here, after the public meeting Bapu auctioned the snuff box, the successful bid was of Rupees One hundred and one. Then Bapu and the Marchers called it a day.
