Bapu and his band of satyagrahis left Vanz and for the first time entered the Gayakwadi territories of Baroda State, that morning they camped at Dhaman. Bapu declared he had resolved he wouldn't eat anything brought from outside the village where they were camped, he would only consume what the villagers provided for him.
At 6 O’clock in the evening Bapu and his band left Dhaman for Navsari. The entire 6 mile route was choked with people, water had been sprayed on it, so that dust wouldn't rise. On both sides of the road, huge crowds had gathered to see Bapu and welcome him to Navsari. Bapu’s public meeting that evening had been organized in the dry lake bed in the center of Navsari city, he promised the crowd, ‘Either I will return with the victory gland around my neck, or I will drown in the sea. I appeal to the Parsis of Navsari to give up the trade in liquor. I call upon the Parsi women to join picketing against liquor shops and vends. Liquor is evil it destroys families and societies. We must abolish liquor if we are to save humankind’. The gathering of more than fifty thousand residence of Navsari had gathered at Dudhiya Talav in the center of Navsari to listen to Bapu’s message. The Mukhis of Anda and Navagam presented Bapu with their resignations. in their resignation letters they said, ‘cooperation with the colonial regime is a sin and we want to atone for our sins by resigning’.
