The British was charging 1400 percent tax on salt, salt which was an essential life element for the poorest of poor and weakest of weak and for the animals in the tropical climate had been turned into a tool of oppression by the British. Such a tax was draconian and immoral, it was the duty of citizens to break such a monstrous law.
