Both good actors and bad actors are motivated by different things like money, the thrill of the challenge, wanting to make a statement, or just believing in doing what's right. But while bad actors break the rules to take what's not theirs or cause harm, good actors work within the rules to protect and improve our internet city.
These are like the thieves and vandals in our city. They break into buildings for many reasons. Some want money, so they might break into a bank (this is like ransomware or stealing data to sell). Others might do it for the thrill, like sneaking into a place they're not supposed to be, just to prove they can (these are the "script kiddies"). Then, there are the "hacktivists," who are like graffiti artists with a message. They break in to make a statement or show they disagree with what the building stands for. Some bad actors work for certain groups or even countries and act like spies or saboteurs, trying to cause trouble or get secrets.
These are like the city's guardians or ethical hackers. They also break into buildings, but not to steal. They do it to test the locks and alarms to make sure thieves can't get in. They might enjoy the challenge or want to be known as the best lock tester. They get paid for this work, but they do it the right way, by asking permission first and helping to fix what's weak. Some do it because they believe it's the right thing to do, wanting to keep the city safe for everyone.
