The Iowa DOT cares about your mobility, safety, and overall experience when driving along Iowa's statewide transportation network. Within the state, the Interstate system is a special class of roadway which makes up only 0.7% of the total roadway system yet supports 25% of the total vehicle miles traveled and 56% of the large truck vehicle miles. Keeping the wheels moving can be a significant challenge sometimes such as during: sever winter storms, when roads are reaching their peak capacity and when our roadway require reconstruction. Getting you there both safely and efficiently is the goal and this requires monitoring roadway performance. The information gained is used by the Iowa DOT to improve decision making, readiness, and investment along these critical paths across our state. The 2016 Interstate Congestion Report provides a snapshot, specific to road user experience, as measured through Interstate mobility and reliability.
