MARZANO FRAMEWORK
This framework is based on the works of Marzano, who authored The Art and Science of Teaching (Marzano, 2007) and Effective Supervision: Supporting the Art and Science of Teaching (Marzano, Frontier, & Livingston, 2011) among others. This model is a combination of these works, focuses on student achievement, and is quite detailed.
The Marzano Framework consists of four domains:
Classroom Strategies and Behaviors
Preparing and Planning
Reflecting on Teaching
Collegiality and Professionalism
Within these four domains, there are 60 elements: 41 in Domain 1, 8 in Domain 2, 5 in Domain 3, and 6 in Domain 4. This framework for evaluating teachers allows for specific feedback and guidance for teachers. The Marzano framework is also designed to assist teachers in systemically improving their instructional practices over time.
Key Takeaways:
A goal is set at the beginning of the year and your area of focus is decided.
If you are on a comprehensive evaluation, you will be evaluated on all of the criteria. Your administrator will need to see evidence of the elements within the observation period.
