How to Get Certified
How to Get Certified
You got the job because of your industry experience!! Nice work!! Now you need to get certified. Your district most likely applied for a Conditional Certificate on your behalf through OSPI (The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction). The good news is that your district does all the work in obtaining this certificate for you! Now we need to get you CTE certified so you can apply to get your initial certificate! There are several different options to obtain your CTE Certificate. Below is a list with descriptions of the various types of CTE certifications that are available.”
Side note: Certificate types you will get- in the order you will get them:
Conditional- You can work for the district that hires you based on your industry experience. Your district must initiate this certificate. (Basically you have to stay in that district until you get your initial certificate)
Initial- This is the certificate that you can apply for after you complete your CTE certification. You apply for this certificate yourself. (You are now free to apply to different schools and districts if you choose!)
Continuing- This is the second (and final tier) for certification. If you hold or have held a Continuing CTE teaching certificate then you qualify for the general education lifetime substitute certificate.
Also required- CTE teachers are required to be CPR/First Aid certified. Your district will likely offer a training for you.
