A complete SLPPM will include the following information:

A Collection Development Policy containing these elements:

  • A Rationale Statement that relates back to the school's and school library program's mission, vision and values and states the collection development policy's impacts on students.

  • A succinct Collection Development Policy Statement encompassing the principles of:

goals and priorities

scope/development

funding

standards/assessments/measures

management

responsibility

equity

  • Definition of the Policy's Audience

  • Authorship of the Policy

  • Related Documents that inform the Policy (Studies, Data, Official Statements)

  • Date of Ratification

  • Date for Review


Supporting Procedural Documentation including, but not limited to:

  • A List of Library Collections & Their Locations

  • Organizational Systems: Alpha, Dewey, or Genre and their Definitions

  • Procurement/Ordering Procedures with Responsibility Flowchart

  • Selection Plan & Criteria

  • A List of Preferred Vendors & Account Managers

  • Donation & Gifts Policy

  • Processing Procedure for Each Type of Resource including:

Stamping Locations

Labeling Locations

Covering Directions

Cataloging Directions

Shelving & Access Instructions

  • Resource Maintenance Procedure & Schedule
