Biography

Xiaoyu Wen, China

Xiaoyu Wen graduated from Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, in textile design. Based in the Netherlands.

Five years ago, she moved from China to The Netherlands and exposed herself to different cultures. She constantly works on textile art installations and photography.

Xiaoyu won the Keep An Eye Textile and Fashion Award 2023 and is currently exploring her art path.

Artist Statement

‘Cacophony Orchestra’ is a textile instrument-based installation which is talking about sound & textiles. 

I am trying to explore the sound hidden behind the yarn. I took concert halls

and orchestra as inspirations, also worked with people from the Royal. Conservatory and art science department to generate sounds from textile strings. 

I recorded different sound pieces from the installation, edited and composed my own sound album.
