The lack of specific knowledge in the field of natural sciences, triggered a partnership among 8 European schools, sharing the same interests and needs: the need to foster among the students, the ornithological education, the cross curricular approaches which let the students understand the fragile balance in the environment between different influences, our role as humans in this fragile ecosystem we are surrounded by and the need to get aware of our role to preserve the nature, with all its beauties and to develop knowledge in the field of ornithology, the Cinderela of the Biology classes.
The outdoor activities with the students or the research activities done by some professionals who implemented this project, allowed the team, reunited around the project idea, to gather valuable graphic information, in a form of a great collection of photographs, which, after a certain research stage, for a collection of birds, stud at the foundation of a pedagogical tool, in a form of a richly illustrated bird atlas, which can further foster the education of the students in this area of the natural sciences.
By implementing the project the requirements of two specific objectives were met:
Ob 1. Increasing bird identification competencies among a group of 800 students who will be capable, until June 2022, to recognize in different habitats at least 60 feral avian species existing in the partner schools’ regions.
Ob2. Creating, until May 2022, a bird atlas having at least 430 pages, as an open education resource, in four languages, containing the 200 most specific bird species found in different corners of Europe, atlas intended to be used as a pedagogical auxiliary both in the partner schools and in other relevant secondary schools to foster the ornithological education among secondary students during the biology classes.

The ornithological and scientific competences of 820 students (Ob1) were developed via birdwatching sessions in different birding points, learning sessions in school, presentations, quizzes about birds, field work in ringing camps and birdwatching spots, even contests of identifying the correct bird species organized by the Romanian Society of Ornithology.
The activities concerning the elaboration of a bird atlas as pedagogical tool, envisaging Ob2, first focused on developing proper competences among the teachers involved in the management of the project (via two TTL photography, deontology, birding, bird ringing and scientific ornithologic competences were developed). Then outdoor activities envisaged several photo shooting sessions to catch on lens the chosen species to be depicted in the bird atlas, according to each partner’s list, created at the beginning of the project. The 5091 obtained photos were selected, edited to meet the book’s requirements, and shared for evaluation on a collaborative platform, then the teachers did several research sessions about the birds and created a descriptive page for each of the 305 species and 24 families depicted finally in the richly illustrated, 726 pages bird atlas, which was given further to the target group via dissemination activities. The book is translated in RO, GR and PL.

The most relevant innovation of this output is the form it's assembled, as each bird species is described on two pages with high quality photos, one page being dedicated solely to one enlarged, relevant photo depicting the chosen species.
The created bird atlas is not necessarily a profoundly scientific ornithological work, dealing with the abundance and long term changes for a species but an illustrative book (with still a solid scientific base) dealing with bird occurrence and relevant information about the avifauna.
