a functional behavior assessment is the process of collecting information due to a concern in behavior (social, emotional, or academic). The data is used to see what is causing and the purpose ofdd the behavior.
With using an FBA it allows for teachers and other staff members to support the student and help to change the behavior.
Identifying the Problem
Collecting the information/data
Analysis Intervention Planning
Monitoring/Evaluation/Make a Plan
The IEP team of the student ( teacher, administrator, and other appropriate school personnel) works together to collect and analyze the data.
There are two types of assessment when it comes to FBA's
Indirect Assessment
Discussing the behavior with others who had witnessed it.
Direct Assessment
The behavior is happening in front of the evaluator.
FBA Example
The antecedent is what happens right before the behavior is exhibited. In simpler terms, it is the actions that essentially let you know the behavior is about to occur. In some cases, the antecedent behavior can be the root cause of the behavior.
