Children's International Art Exhibits

Iryna Bakuymenko
President
Kharkiv-Cincinnati Sister City Partnership

The mutual exhibition of children's art works is the first project out of a long list of events planned till 2022 between the people of Kharkiv and Cincinnati. Children's drawing and paintings are the perfect way to show that in spite of being across the ocean from each other and having different cultures and traditions, the people in both cities have very similar feelings and emotions, e.g., about winter holidays. Our similarities, desire to develop the relations of friendship and cooperation and determination to help each other are the basis of the successful Sister City Partnership which will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.

Enjoy the bright colors and unique images of the young artists' works and join us with your own projects and ideas of Sister City cooperation

Bob Herring
President
Cincinnati-Kharkiv Sister City Partnership

In 1989 when the Cincinnati-Kharkiv Sister City Partnership began when the mayors of each ity signed the Memorandum of Understanding that defined the relationship between the citizens of Kharkiv and Cincinnati.

For 30 years people from all walks of life and from all professions have collaborated on a variety of projects that enabled those relationship to develop and strengthen over the past 3 decades.

The challenge has always bee, "How do we introduce the next generation of Kharkivites and Cincinnatians to this partnership and encourage them to take part?" Art is one way. Feelings and emotions, traditions and hope can be conveyed in color and shape. That is what we wanted to do with the joint exhibit on "Winter Holidays." What do we fell about the season? What will we always remember? What is important?

We hope you enjoy this exhibit and see beyond the shapes and colors into the hearts of the artists to begin to understand what they experience and when its' cold and the days are short, when we celebrate that this season.
