The following are four features I envision having in my minicourse:
Readings and Resources - Learners will be able to access online articles and material regarding Hatch Insights™.
Interactive Quizzes - Learners will be able to gain feedback on their knowledge of key concepts in the course through interactive quizzes.
Video Screencast - Learners will watch the modeling of procedures on how to navigate Hatch Insights™ in order to plan for small group instruction.
Assignments & Projects - Learners will complete assignments that will showcase their understanding of material in the course. Feedback will come in the form of peer reviews. The final assignment will be to generate a small group lesson plan from Hatch Insights™ which they will implement in their classroom.
My LMS of choice is Canvas. Canvas is a good choice for my minicourse for the following reasons:
The ability to organize course content in the form of modules within the LMS makes it easy to create the instructional pathway for my learners.
Canvas will allow me to upload external resources into the modules themselves. My mini-course has a couple of external resources that would easily integrate into the Canvas modules.
Canvas allows for practice quizzes that can provide feedback to learners regarding their understanding of the mini-course content.
Canvas' course analytics features provides me the chance to view and analyze learner participation and performance on the mini-course.
Canvas allows me to post rubrics for course assignments. This would be helpful for learners when they provide peer feedback on each other's small-group lesson plan submission.
Chats and Collaborations are Canvas elements that would allow learners to interact and provide feedback regarding small-group lesson plans they have created using Hatch Insights™.
Finally, the flexibility to complement face-to-face course activities with Canvas module resources makes Canvas a good fit for the hybrid design of this mini-course where learners can go into Canvas and complete certain "up-front" portions of the course on their own time, and then later on join other Pre-K teachers in staff meetings to complete the exercises in person such as the one where they would physically demonstrate to a peer how to log into Hatch Insights™ from the PGCPS district homepage.
The following are three resources that can support me as I build out my course on the Canvas LMS:
Canvas LMS YouTube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/CanvasLMS
-This channel provides helpful videos that answer many of the How-To questions about Canva.
Canvas Instructor Guide - https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/tkb-p/Instructor
-The resources on this guide are organized in outline form, and there are links to how-to videos.
The PGCPS Technology Training Team Canvas Support Site - https://sites.google.com/pgcps.org/pgcpst3/canvas
-This website contains self-paced courses for teachers on using Canvas. It also has basic visual "cheat sheets" that can help you perform tasks on Canvas.
