Hello, and welcome to this introduction to Using Insights by Hatch™ to Inform Small Group Instruction, a minicourse for Pre-K teachers in the Prince George’s County Public School district.
Pre-K teachers! I understand that teaching Pre-K is both a mentally and physically demanding job. We constantly find ourselves running out of time and energy to meet the increasing demands of work. This minicourse is here to help!
The intended audience of this course are public school Pre-K teachers in Prince George’s county who are already actively using the Ignite by Hatch™ online educational program in their classrooms.
This course will show you how to leverage the tools on Insights by Hatch™, in planning for differentiated small-group instruction in the Pre-K classroom.
Think of it as another tool in your tool box that can help simplify the planning process, therefore saving you valuable time and energy.
Helping you spend less time on paperwork… to more time building meaningful connections with your students.
Hi, there. I’m Tricia. I developed this minicourse with the goal to empower Pre-K teachers in the district.
I understand what it’s like to be a Pre-K teacher in the classroom, having taught Pre-K for the past 20 years with the district.
That’s why I’m always looking for ways to streamline processes and to make things easier for myself and others in the same position.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to successfully generate a small group lesson plan from the Hatch Insights™ online platform which they can then implement in their classrooms.
There are two modules in this minicourse.
Module one gives an overview of Hatch Insights™ and ways it can specifically support small group instruction. Module two guides you through the process of accessing and navigating the Hatch Insights™ platform.
The course can be comfortably completed within half a day.
So what are you waiting for? Sign up today and discover how Insights by Hatch™ can support you in providing targeted small group instruction.

How does the video fit within your minicourse?
This video is a welcome video and a course overview to encourage the target audience to register for the course. It relies on principles of andragogy to motivate the target audience to sign up for the course by showing the reasons why this course can be helpful to them in their profession. It introduces the course developer and establishes her credibility and professional background. It also provides general information regarding the course modules and how much time participants may need to invest to complete the minicourse.
What are your thoughts on meeting accessibility standards?
I chose font and background colors that have strong color contrast to make text and images easy to make out. I made effort to not be redundant with the narration and the text displayed on the video. I also provided closed captioning on Youtube and corrected it for form and grammatical errors. I tried to narrate at a manageable speed for listeners, although I think I could have added a few more visuals to retain attention, since the narration seems to be lengthy for certain portions of the video.
What was your closed captioning process?
I auto-generated them on Youtube, and then went in and edited the text using their subtitles editor feature.
Reflect on the software program you used to create your video. Was it relatively easy? Challenging? What are alternatives that you may wish to try next time?
This was my first time to create a video presentation from scratch on Canva. It was relatively easy process. Canva's wide array of templates, features, and video effects make it almost effortless to create and record a video. I would definitely use it again in order to get better at the process.
I am new to Instructional Design and the digital design process, so I don't know of many other alternatives other than the ones available for educators in my district. Thankfully, Canva was one of them. Down the road I want to explore more of Canva's creative features, which may include adding a professionally shot video to my digital projects.
