In Scholastic Quiz, or Squiz, as it is affectionately nicknamed, a competitor doesn’t need anything to excel except a vast knowledge of random facts, figures, and formulas. “One of the best parts [about Squiz] is knowing an obscure fact and having it pay off, or having a lucky guess and getting it right,” says Orazio Thomas, a member of Varsity Squiz. Competitors in teams of four sit and listen to questions about academic trivia being asked, and the team that buzzes in faster gets to answer-- and gets the chance to earn points. Members of varsity squiz are Rhys Long, Chase Forberger, Orazio Thomas, Sam Swope, Ryan Trostle, and Andie McCullough. Members of Junior Varsity are Annaliese Niebauer, Robert Lazer, Jack Wolf, and Amber Bailey. So far, their record is 3 wins and 5 losses, but they’re only in the 5th week of competition.
