PMEA, short for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, is an organization committed to bringing music to people all over Pennsylvania. Three competitive divisions exist in PMEA, two of which Central Cambria regularly sends students to compete in. These divisions are PMEA Chorus and Band. “If you are a serious singer, [PMEA Chorus] is the number one way that you can improve in high school,” says Mr. Seymour, the PMEA Chorus coach. “If you can think of PMEA as being like a sport, there are people that play that sport recreationally, and those are the students that are in our everyday chorus. Then there are students that are more serious about it. Those students are the ones that become the most successful PMEA students.” Both divisions have been extremely successful in past years, with more students moving on to later, more competitive levels in comparison to other PA schools. Out of the 19 students that went to PMEA Chorus Pre-Auds, 16 are moving on to Districts: Evan Brown, Jude Caroff, Jake Kopco, Aaron Caplea, Katrina Shedd, Rhys Long, Caelyn Kim, Malyn Shoff, Loralyn Simmers, Hannah Penrod, Adam Sauka, Aubrey Baker, Ayden Stiffler, Michaela Lees, Hunter Springer, and Lauren Sauka. PMEA Band Pre-Auds are later, on November 17th. “I think the goal of any musician is to continue learning and improving,” says the PMEA Band coach, Mrs. Kokus. “Students that participate love the experience and I'm happy to promote and support it among my students.”
