Mock Trial

Mock Trial is an activity in which students are the witnesses and lawyers in a simulated court case. Students who play witnesses must use their acting abilities and the information given about their character to testify convincingly, while those who are lawyers use their knowledge of the case and the intricacies of law to prepare questions for the opposing team. The best teams can outsmart and out-act their opponents, thus winning the case. “If you are willing to put forth the effort, Mock Trial is a great experience,” says Gabriella Gibson. “Mock Trial will help you in everyday arguments and with public speaking, two skills that are critical now and will be critical in the future.”
Recently, the team got to travel to New Haven, CT where they competed in Yale University's Bulldog Invitational. The Invitational hosted more than 20 schools from across the country, and thanks to the Central Cambria Education Foundation, our own team got to be a part of it all! “The kids held their own,” says Mrs. Niebauer, the Mock Trial coach. “We didn’t have a ton of preparation time.” The team was also able to attend workshops that enhanced their mock trial skills. While on the trip, students toured the campus and got a taste of what college is like. The Mock Trial team even had a private session with a branch of Yale School of Medicine where they tested out new educational video and virtual reality games. Students were thrilled and very thankful to have this incredible opportunity! The team looks forward to turning their practice into action when their regular season begins later this month.
