For some of the CCW events, we utilize the space below to post cancellations or logistical updates that help communicate during uncertain conditions. Include this URL on your calendaring page, and stop back before you go to the event, Refresh this page and stop back before you go!
We are watching the weather to ensure success. At this writing, we are on track to meet at the Torpedo Factory lobby. Stop back here the day of the event.
1) As of 11:30 am Sat. Jan 24, we have received no updates from DCCK, and that makes me confident that we are good to go! We've called and inquired via email about their protocols for cancellation due to weather but have not heard back.
2) Watch for emails from DCCK. If you are walking from the metro, be sure to have good shoes (for an event when you'll be standing, and for a (potentially) snowy sidewalk trip back to the metro or your other transportation after we have done our service that ends at 4 pm.
3) All of the following are verified to be registered with CCW: Elysa, Peter, Alicia, Maggie, Liz, P, Bruce, Rebekah, Kathryn, and John H.. Liz G., Richard and Julia H, Grace and Lauren. We welcome our waiting lister Alex / Alejandro if he wants to come as back-up! Something tells me DCCK will have some work for him to do!
Our event's details as originally posted and CCW's calendar listing.
1) As of 1:30 pm on the day of the event, we see no reason to change plans. See you at 5:30!
2) If you need to cancel on the day of our event, please send a courtesy message only to the following address since a prior planner is having a full day of work-related communications and may not be able to address your email. New: You can send your questions or cancellation to Maggie instead at the following email address:
Librarian MS @ gmail. com .
2) We are a large group! Since the venue does not reserve tables, Maggie is getting there early and all participants can assist her to secure tables.
3 ) Participants: Nan, Anthony, Angelica, Nikunj, Mark, Gary, Kathryn, Leona, Michael, Swati, Jae, Adriana, Kahlil, Jonathan, Jessica, Robyn, Doug, Damian, Angela, Sneha, William, Linda, Yi and Nakul. Host: Maggie Co-host unable to attend: Tomoko (Names in bold are CCW Board Members who will be so pleased to meet you, so introduce yourselves!
3) Ask Maggie about any of the following upcoming CCW events that are getting off the ground. We always welcome volunteers to help in the organizational stages, and it's fun! Details linked from CCW home page.
host our next Big Red Food Tour. Pick a restaurant, date, and develop the invitation with Maggie's support or Steve's (VP of Programming.)
join a book discussion. Details and pre-registration are at the CCW home page
form a 4-man squad to participate in the May 9 Amazing Race
join the organizational committee to develop the scavenger hunt and other activities for the May 9 Amazing Race in Alexandria that CCW is developing
complete the survey at CCW's home page to help us determine additional activities to plan.
Yiming and Maggie are CONFIRMING this event for today! See you at the trailhead! Consult weather outlook.
Registration fees are non-refundable. (Honestly, we just don't have the manpower in our all-volunteer organization to manage the accounting involved for a an event of this sort.)
Registration is free for members of the Cornell Club of Washington, but, sorry, not free for non-members. CCW provides scholarships to needy students, and I think that's where most of the dues $$ goes. But we face a big annual fee to run our web platform. So, feel good about keeping CCW financially sound for its dues paying members. (Maggie works real hard to make social and charitable events unfancy and dirt cheap. )
Why not start learning names? Welcome these folks to our hike: Robyn & Damian, Caroline & John, Dorothy, Sam, Don & Ellen, Alexander & Guest, Nick & Cindy, Julie, Phil and Marty with their pals Bernie and wife (Yiming / Josef and Maggie are co-hosts)
Please remember to bring: water bottle, sunscreen, hat, hiking shoes, cash to tip wait staff, cash to pay Maggie if we are forced to put this on her credit card... and a snack to share according to list below:
women: a wedge of good cheese or washed grapes / fruit
men: a box of crackers for cheese or washed/prepped fruit or veggies
people who forget to bring anything: $$ to purchase a snack off of Casanel's menu to share. Details.
hosts: platters, knives, bowls, napkins, paper plates, containers for folks wanting the leftovers.
If you are interested in co-hosting a fun social or community service event in the future and want Maggie's support to see such through as your co-host, notice lots of possibilities across the top of this page.
Ideas can become EVENTS if I can find co-hosts!
Reach back at Librarian MS @ gmail . com (no spaces) to gather the support of a co-host
But you don't need too much support. See why!
If you take the short survey at the CCW home page, it will direct the efforts of CCW's volunteers to create events according to your interests.
1) IMPORTANT UPDATE!!! Lawless Forge warns against using MapQuest for your directions. They say:
"Please DO NOT use MapQuest for directions. When using Uber, be sure to double-check the destination address. Uber pulls data from MapQuest, which is incorrect. Unfortunately, we've been trying to resolve this issue with MapQuest without success."
2) All participants must fill out this waiver before arrival:
https://lawless-forge-sterling.checkfront.com/reserve/document/?template_id=1&id=ZXDV-260825
3) Make sure you notify Maggie and step out of pictures if your preference is not to be included at CCW web site, Facebook or Instagram posts or letters to the membership. We will respect your privacy!
4) Payments for this event get confusing, so please make sure you pay via the Cornell Club of Washington Registration system. Paid registrations that way secure participants an anvil for whacking!
Here is my list of paid registrants as of 11/19/2025: Sarah, Karen & Damon, Alex, Eric,/ Laurie / Madeleine, Vikram, Richard, Elysa, (with Peter, Ameilia. ) We have others "registered" but so far unpaid... which poses a challenge, so read on if that's you:
Please do not make separate arrangements with Lawless Forge to pay for our event without a written confirmation from Maggie... as your registration must move through the CCW web site to be paid for and valid with our CCW group. LOL: They do not have enough anvils to handle numbers for which we have not accounted in our reservation. If you are one of our LAST DAY ADDITIONS, please bring your checkbook in order to make your payment to CCW or let her watch you pay CCW via credit card with Maggie at the door. Thank you!
Link to check your registation: https://cornellclubdc.org/event-6314060 . When you log in, you can see if you are properly registered for the event and if you have made your non-refundable payment. I need to drop from registration anyone not fully paid a few days ahead of time and accommodate folks on our waiting list. Thanks! (But good news: the forge runs these workshops for the public and you can check into that possibility if our grouping does not work out for you.)
Questions? Accomodations for anyone not a Cornell Club member, or accompanied by one as their guest? Reach Maggie from Cornell Club of Washington by email to Librarian MS @ Gmail . com (no spaces.) This super popular event has been arranged with the interest of Cornell Club dues-paying members as our priority for engagement; I can post an update here if we end up having room for folks from other alumni clubs like Columbia U's, and that decision will be made by Nov. 24. Thank you for your interest because we LOVE our connections to other alumni groups!
