For a complete list of upcoming events, see Cornell Club of Washington's web site.
Cornellians are encouraged to attend these events (potentially with Cornell gear on so we can locate one another!) We need co-hosts to help others connect around a central location, so please help by sending an e-mail to Librarian MS @ gmail.com (type that in with NO SPACES) if you will help a gal out!
Live Music in Falls Church:
I'm noticing this recently developed commercial area in Falls Church (5 min from W. Falls Church Metro stop on the Orange line) is creating buzz with events that will market and launch new businesses. See the musical events on their page if anyone wants to organize a meet-up.
Events at West Falls | Falls Church, VA
Tarara Winery Concert Series - (Leesburg) Throw-back bands cover the hits of 70s, 80s, 90s every weekend through summer. See the schedule to get the idea.
Maggie is organizing for Sept. 27 but needs 3 co-hosts very badly and all you have to do is come on time. So watch this page for a registration link. Up for grabs-- all that I learned this summer about how to organize with a tent, but I had to cancel for Sept. 27.
Still, for anyone interested, I can share the following info on how to organize for any other summer Saturdays at 6 pm in Leesburg. Unless a TENT is rented, organizer needs to arrive early to set up the "Cornellians perimeter" with maybe setting down a huge tarp, blankets, inviting lawn chairs, folding table for pot-luck snacks we all bring. (You will see other meet-up groups doing the same; these are terrific groups with whom to enjoy mingling while you bop to the band.) There is a dancing pit in front of the stage and wine to be purchased. Bug spray might not hurt-- LOL! Even when it pours rain, it is an OUTSTANDING fun event! The guards at the gate allow in coolers that they search, but will not permit entry of beverages or even reusable water bottles, but the wine and beer they sell ain't bad, and you can get eats from the food trucks! See video and more. FAQ sheet helps all organizers prepare. Tents can be rented for parties of 16 or more (charge is $45 per attendee which you would need plenty of advanced prep to collect up front, which covers the $20 entry fee and some chairs and paper products that support the pot-luck, NOT food or bev. Web site enables contact to begin that organizational work and the customer service to me when I was investigating was very good. If we get enough CCW paid registrations by July 30, we're a go with this plan.) If we don't have enough paid registrations, we will still have the Sept. 27 event and establish our perimeter, oldschool, but not pre-arrange a pre-paid tent.
Organizers can get there early for easiest parking and to get on line... bag check and entry begins at 5 pm, then concert runs 6-9:30.
Jazz in the Garden Series - (runs Fridays, 5pm May - July 11, but not 4th.) National Mall Sculpture Garden. Free tix but lottery system is in place with limited "same day" entry, depending on crowds, but can't guarantee all will get tix. For Friday, June 20, just as an example, lottery ended June 13 and then we had to wait... to see if we got 4 tix per organizer. Watch this space to see if some tix have been obtained and assigned to Cornell Club's registrants. Let us know if you obtained 4 and we'll help you assign them!
Strathmore (in Bethesda) has a summer outdoor music schedule (it's free, it's mostly Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, and they also list Kid-oriented dates) and we could organize a gathering. Free parking and directions.
Tribute band at State Theatre, Falls Church, Sept. 20. See below. Maggie had to cancel her involvement for the Pink Floyd gig, but there are many events like it and she can share organizational tips and post your offering at these pages at a minimum, or help you set up more formal registrations at CCW if you select an evenining to attend (recommending you choose a date at least 3 weeks out.
Jazzy Jazz Jazz. Cuz it's JAZZ! Mr. Henry's (Cornellian owned and where Roberta Flack's career was born) maintains a cool schedule, especially strong for Wed. nights when music starts around 8 pm. The schedule includes other performances like comedy.
Contra Dance (like Square Dancing) -what it is. Investigate the Friday Nights at the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park at https://www.fridaynightdance.com/ Who wants to co-host a Friday, 7:30 meet-up with Maggie? Learn the basic moves by coming a few minutes early. Come alone or with a partner. The dances mix you up with various partners all night long.

Watch this space: An effort was underway to pull together a table at the September 20, 2025 State Theatre event in Falls Church, but its leader developed a schedule conflict. If you are interested, contact Librarian MS @gmail.com and help to make a State Theatre event of your choosing happen (and Maggie'll pre-register you and ask you to host it while she does most of the organizational work.) Find details to buy your ticket for our table proactively. Add THIS web page's URL to your calendar to track logistics and steps for a full registration.
A successful registration and full payment at our Cornell Club of Washington's web site when that link goes live gets you your first drink at the table that we are reserving. If you aren't part of that group, Cornellians will still welcome you to come squeeze around the table, hang out and dance with us.
Summary:
1) Buy your ticket directly from State Theatre while they have supplies.
2) Register with CCW to get your spot at the table coming with a pre-paid drink.
3) Handle the rest of your tab on your own and tip well; we love the wait staff!
