For a complete list of upcoming events and their registration links, see Cornell Club of Washington's web site.
What is this web site? It is NOT the official Cornell Club of Washington Web site.
Instead, it's a platform to support the club's planning and logistics of some of the social (and often community service) events for CCW. It's a brainstorming hub where you'll probably find SOMETHING that you could help Maggie co-host to ensure that we get the event idea off the ground and onto the CCW calendar.(so that members can register and attend it.) That process can take 3-6 weeks of steps, but Maggie is here at this site to support with a useful , extremely thorough check-list of considerations to guide event leaders like you.
(Maggie has 2 official functions in CCW: VP Community Service and Acting webmaster. But she's also on the communications committee, and with a little more time on her hands than some of CCW's other volunteers, she organizes a lot of social activities, too, if this web site can drum up interest and collaboration.
And you DON'T need her help! CCW members can send their event posting directly to VP of Programming at the Cornell Club of Washington. <--Steve P has guided legions to success and gets your event announcement up and operational!
Explore the links of this web site's menu and you'll see where Maggie can use some co-hosts. Then get aboard with an e-mail to Librarian MS @ gmail.com (no spaces) if it would help you to receive her planning and logistical support.
A BUNCH of activities will be tied together to create THE AMAZING RACE-- an all-day event in Alexandria, tentatively May 9. It will combine scavenger hunting, probably an option for breakfast bonding for team building / instructions... happy hour, actual racing around Alexandria and possibly DC. It will be a great way for folks new to CCW to meet other Cornell Alums either by being an event organizer with Maggie and her committee, or being a participant on race day (tentatively May 9.)
An in-person or online screening of an important documentary: Maggie is looking for people in our medical community or interested in equity for women in the health profession to consider hosting a screening of 1001 Cuts (a 25 min documentary) with Maggie . This would be a great father-daughter or mother-daughter activity if the child is interested in a career in medicine, in women's issues, and inviting their friends from school to the screening.
Co-host needed to set up a table to enjoy "Yacht Rock" (appealing most to Cornell classes of 1979-1990) on Jan. 31. Who can co-host this event at the State Theatre in Falls Church with Maggie? Get a feel for Thurston Howell and ticket prices here.
If you want to join good reading/ discussion groups, volunteer to co-host with Maggie for one of these, or suggest an adaptation of the idea for a book or film that you love.
Long term-- a singles event idea: What about dominating with Cornellians and their "Wingmen" to participate in an already scheduled "Pitch A Friend" at Quincy Hall (first and 3rd Wed of every month, or Cooper Mill? Learn how it worked at Quincy Hall.
Form a goal to participate in October's Marine Corps Marathon in support of the charity, Stop Soldier Suicide. You have plenty of time to train and YOU WILL GET A FINISHER'S MEDAL if you can walk/run a 14 minute per mile pace. Cornell Club's Running Group will get you there, young or old, just like we got people across the finish line to complete their first marathons in 2025.
Ask how to get aboard the Gala Planning Committee.
Ask how to get aboard a group celebrating the work of Cornell President
Ask how to set up one of our monthly happy hours and consider introducing a theme of your choice to attract networkers. It will be open to all CCW members for mixing and mingling, but maybe you have a particular demographic to draw in, so why not take advantage of our series?
Maggie needs a co-host for our next Art Gallery Walk at the National Gallery of Art.
