Saturday, January 24, 2026
2-4 pm
It's our "Cornell Cares" winter project!
Optional: join the group as early as 1 pm for introductions to other Cornellians --at a cafe that is operated on-site just inside the main entrance. We will love meeting you!
Each volunteer will need to digitally sign a General Liability and Waiver form as Part B of our registration below supplies.
PART A for Cornell Club (REGISTER HERE.) It is limited to 15 Cornell Club members/their guests. Please do not sign up without continuing today (if you possibly can) to Part B. Please do not hold a position from folks on our waiting list if you cannot attend. Thanks, because this is all a little tricky for us to manage!
PART B for DC Central Kitchen (APPLY RED BOX BELOW) Report any difficulties on Part B in a brief email to Librarian MS @ gmail . com (no spaces). Use subject line PROBS WITH DCCK REGISTRATION. Include a screen capture if you can that could be useful to tech support.
1. Long pants (no leggings, no shorts)
2. Closed toe shoes
3. No tank or halter tops, no dresses
4. Hair must be up and out of face. (We will provide hair nets.)
5. Masks are not required; however, they will be available for those who would prefer to wear them.
Our food prep shift consists of preparing, packing meals, and chopping fruits/vegetables. We will be about 15 friendly Cornell Alumni/ Associates/ Big Red Family members potentially working with volunteers from another organization as well.
Our address is 2121 First Street SW, 20024 located in the Buzzard Point neighborhood behind the Audi field. Our front entrance is on V St between First and 2nd St.
We are located closest to Waterfront Metro Station (Green Line). From there it is a 15 minute walk. There is a Circuit shuttle that runs every 15 minutes between Waterfront Metro and our facility Monday through Friday between 6:30am - 9:30am, and 3:30pm – 6:30pm. We are inquiring if it runs on Saturdays and Sundays.
There is also a metro bus (C55) that runs between the Waterfront station and directly in front of our facility.
Nearby is James Creek Marina Parking Lot ($20 Daily)
Bike Racks are located on our site if guests would like to transport via bicycle (Each guest would have to provide own locks to lock bike).
Need to cancel due to a last-minute change of plans? Your courtesy is REALLY APPRECIATED when you please send a note so that we can try to open your space to other volunteers. E-Mail Maggie at Librarian MS @ gmail .com (no spaces)
Event leader Eric B, Cornell '87! He has been awesome to set up this opportunity! Thank you to Elysa G-L, Cornell '88 helped our committee with insights and reporting, too! Thanks also to our DC Central Kitchen Staff member

Part B of your sign-up requires advanced registration with DC Central Kitchen and it supplies them with a necessary liability waiver form. It is an easy 10-minute process and here are the illustrated steps:
For all previous DCCK volunteers who have already created an account in the DC Central Kitchen portal, log in here AND THIS IS ESSENTIAL--> look in your profile under "BASIC INFORMATION" for a means to associate yourself as a CORPORATE volunteer (instead of individual) with CORNELL CLUB OF WASHINGTON so that our event will be an option for you. Then proceed from step 8 below.
Image 1
Otherwise, if you have NEVER volunteered with DCCK, create your account in their Volunteer Portal here: https://dcck.appianportals.com/dcck-volunteer-registration
2. Please select “Create an Account for GROUP Registration.” (Image 2 below.)
3. When you choose “Type of Volunteer Experience” be sure to select Corporate/Organization.
4. (You will need to make sure you have “Cornell Club of Washington DC” selected to allign your profile with our club's service opportunities. In case that opportunity does not present itself early, double check it before you try step 8.))
5. Continue to fill in the additional requested information.
6. Digitally sign your General Liability and Waiver form. NOTE: The COVID-19 Vaccine Attestation form, if even mentioned, is optional.
7. You probably need to go to your email if you are a new registrant to proceed with the email instruction to set up a personalized password if you are a new volunteer. Do that next. And after you are newly logged in, double-check your profile to make sure it has the settings as shown in image 1 above.
8. Use the "sign up" button and go to the section of the calendar for 2 pm on Jan. 24. If there are slots left, click the red "register" button.
9. Trouble-shooting: It is useful to double-check your account profile settings to make sure your profile is associated with Cornell Club of Washington as illustrated in Image 1 above. Furthermore, we have noticed that there can be a lag in the system to decrease the "slots available" with each registration. If you are concerned that you have not been counted, please simply look at your dashboard within DCCK at "home" and it will show the date that you have successfully registered for service.
If you additionally registered with CCW's web site in PART A, you are all set and registered with both organizations now. THANK YOU! The redundancy is important.
Screen shots below are useful in the process. Thanks!

If the top section is green, it should indicate how many Cornell openings are left. Then click the red REGISTER button to complete your registration. Be sure to update the portal if your plans change and send a note to Programming@cornellclubdc.org (and copy to Librarian MS @ gmail . com (no spaces) to withdraw your registration from CCW's list. ( In image below, ignore the Oct 12 reference; its an old screenshot!)
