Kara graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in Ecology in 2018. After several years in teaching, she completed the CCSF Biotechnology Work Experience program with a goal of transitioning to working in the Bay Area biotech industry. She interned in the Shih Lab at the Joint BioEnergy Institute working with Dr. Mitchell Thompson and Liam Kirkpatrick as her mentors. She is now working as a Manufacturing Associate at Ansa Biotechnologies, applying her internship experience with recombinant DNA and bacterial culture. She is hoping to continue to gain experience in industry and potentially pursue graduate school.
