Alexandra holds a bachelors in Biological Sciences from University of California, Davis. Since graduating, she worked at Genentech as a Media Prep and Lab Services Associate Technician. While working in operations at Genentech was a great experience, she decided to go for her dream of research. From joining City College of San Francisco Biotechnology Program, she was able to join as a Lab Aide for Dr. Zimmerman to assist with the social media and the cell culture course.
During her internship at the Ott Lab, Alexandra has been contributing to STRIKEHIV (Specific TAR-Responsive Identification and Killing for Eradication of HIV), a research project led by Dr. Francisco J. Zapatero-Belinchón and Dr. Melanie Ott and conducted in collaboration with the Doudna Lab. Her work focuses on cell culture, cloning, cell line creation, and transfection. This experience has taught her to stay flexible and keep improving, no matter what challenges come her way.
This fall, Alexandra will be joining the CIRM Bridges Internship, where she is currently in the process of matching to a lab. Afterward, she hopes to pursue a PhD and dedicate her career to research.
