My name is Alan Xie, but I also go by AJ. I interned at Gladstone Institute’s Bioinformatics Core this semester, under the tutelage of Dr. Michela Traglia. Prior to CCSF, I worked in biotech for four years. This professional experience consisted of wet lab roles in production, process development, and R&D. I’m currently pursuing a transition to the dry lab, and the Bioscience internship has been incredibly helpful for this goal. Under Dr. Traglia, I’ve gained skills in statistical methods, data analysis and visualization, and the R programming language. More importantly, I learned about how bioinformatics and its tools and pipelines can be used to extract meaningful insight from complex biological data. In the future, I hope to complete a Master’s degree so that I may further pursue a career in bioinformatics and/or computational biology.
