Prior to joining the Biotechnology program at CCSF, I had just completed a B.S. in Molecular Biology. I enjoyed lab work and was interested in working in a health-related field, but I had no idea how to find such a job since I lacked experience. I learned about the program through an acquaintance at a hospital that I previously volunteered at, and decided to take a few classes to build my resume. That was the beginning of a wild journey that turned my goal of working in science into a reality.
I never officially got a chance to do an internship, as I was offered a laboratory analyst position while I was preparing to apply. I currently work at Cel Analytical, an environmental microbiology lab that tests water, wastewater, and soil for pathogens and biological contaminants. I am primarily responsible for virus assays in mammalian cells and microbial source tracking using qPCR. This has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me, and I’m excited to see where it will take me next.
