Workforce Highlights
Staff insight into training needs was collected
100% of staff completed a Workforce Training Needs Gap Survey based on Public Health Core Competencies. Results will be used for the Workforce Development Plan in Q3.
Provided break-time activities for staff
Our Public Health Educator Jen started offering regular "Jen-ercise" classes during 15 minute breaks. There were 12 break-time activities offered in Q2, up from just 1 in Q1!
Re-organized our staff break room
Our admin staff re-organized our breakroom with a coffee bar, condiments, board games, etc. 38% of staff reported using the breakroom this quarter, up from 23% in Q1!
Staff feedback was addressed & shared
100% of staff feedback shared via our 3 feedback methods (google form, box, or direct email) was addressed via the Employee Newsletter.
Next Steps for Workforce (how will we stay on track this year)
Based on results of Workforce Needs Assessment establish accurate and efficient way to implement and track “succession planning” and “leverage and pool internal resources” strategies.
Create a committee to implement employee engagement related activities; recognition programs/days, breakroom/activities, etc.
Update yearly evaluations to incorporate objectives related to individual staff competency assessments.
Determine if a mentorship program for new staff is desired and/or achievable and what that would look like.
Updates to Goals/Objectives/Measures for Workforce
Wording of “% of staff to complete competency assessment training each year” changed to “% of fulltime staff to complete competency assessment training each year.”
Removed the following measures (these measures were not determined to be priority areas per the Workforce Development Plan):
o # of free data analytics/assessment trainings identified
o # of free policy development/planning trainings identified
o # of free public health sciences trainings identified
o # of free management/finance skills trainings identified
o # of free leadership/systems thinking trainings identified
Added the following measure (allowing staff to feel empowered to take trainings that fit their learning style is important for inclusivity objectives):
o # of training styles offered for above trainings (video, online, podcast)

Communication Highlights
Grew our TikTok account
Our TikTok account was launched in Q1 of 2023. In Q2, we successfully maintained regular posting on the account with 22 TikTok videos posted this quarter for 13 different health topics/programs!
Promoted our divisions
The first week in April is Public Health Week. During this week, we posted twice daily to promote each of our divisions and select programs at CCHD. We had 12 division/department promotion posts in Q2!
Engaged with media
We submitted 6 press releases, including Health Alerts for poor Air Quality caused by wildfire smoke, and provided 4 interviews or comments to the media this Quarter!
Promoted our services
Represented CCHD and our services on 28 community coalitions or taskforces, participated in 8 community coalition/taskforce projects, and attended 56 community events to promote CCHD services.
Next Steps for Communication (how will we stay on track this year)
Determine programs that have the capacity to conduct research and engage intended audiences in media campaign design.
Discuss at next communications meeting which, if any, programs have done formative research for their communications campaigns this year.
Discuss at next communications meeting how to incorporate feedback from members of intedended audiences into our communications designs.
Continue research into next steps for establishing and instant messaging system.
Determine feasibility of tracking resources provided to the community at outreach events.
Determine when press releases should be sent out for events.

Collaboration Highlights
Conducted staff Quality Improvement trainings
In June, 100% of full-time staff participated in interactive, in-person Quality Improvement Trainings. Training covered: Goals of Quality Improvement, CCHD's QI Plan, and Plan-Do-Check-Act through lecture, video, and games. The % of staff that felt knowledgeable about the goals of QI increased from 41% to 93% after the training!
Presented on TFZ health equity work to BOH
At the June Board of Health meeting, The Tobacco Free Zone staff presented on the program including; goals, data, and economic impact of tobacco. The presentation included data related to specific demographic groups disproportionally impacted by tobacco industry marketing including youth and African Americans.
Provided data to disparity focused coalition partners
Provided Community Health Assessment survey data broken down by disability status and sexual orientation/gender identity to ATI's Cortland County Coalition on Cannabis & Alcohol: Neighbors with Disability and Lived Experience (CANDLE) and TC3's Cross Community LGBTQ Advocacy Alliance (CCLAA) to identify health disparities.
Shared CHIP data updates with community groups
Community Health Improvement Plan quarterly data updates were shared at 4 coalition/community meetings in Q2. These meetings included; The Opioid Taskforce, the Community Services Board, SPEAK UP Cortland, and the Cortland County Immunization Coalition.

Identify the Board of Health’s vision for collaborating on press releases and review of policies.
Provide presentations to the BOH on programs they require more education on.
Continue to engage and educate partners on CHIP data collection processes.
