ESTES VALLEY
Summer is here, last winter has been forgotten and fall seems far away. Summer is time for outdoor activities and work on the railroad typically is not a high priority. Model railroading is a four season hobby, and what and where the activities are moves around a bit as the seasons change.
The July joint meeting of the NMRA Estes Valley Division and the Estes Valley Model Railroaders celebrated the season with a picnic at the home of Laura T. The combined organization provided a main course and attendees brought goodies to share.
The call to “PLATE UP!” was issued and the crew of 30 plus modelers and guests or spouses adjourned to the sunny deck to enjoy friendship and some wonderful Colorado sunshine.
This writer has nothing to report on meetings between January and July on account of choosing not to drive in the mountains after dark. Successful cataract surgery has eliminated that concern and I intend to report on future activities of the Estes Valley in future editions of the CALLBOARD. With some additional luck, I will even have something for the TECHNICAL CORNER in the next CALLBOARD.
Estes Valley people take Rails in the Rockies© quite seriously and are working on still more surprises for the premiere model railroad event of each winter. Next year’s Rails in the Rockies© show will be at the Estes Park Conference center, February 18th and 19th, 2017. The show is always on President’s Day weekend. I hope to see many there and am anxious to participate in “SHARING KNOW-HOW” as our friends in the British Region say.
Friendship, helping each other, and sharing knowledge are hallmarks of the hobby and of the NMRA. That is our purpose in the Estes Valley Division - http://evmrr.org/.
On a sad note, I must note the passing of Bob Stull, a fine man and wonderful narrow gauge modeler. http://ngdiscussion.net/phorum/read.php?1,314333
