STEP 1: ACTIVATE – Verifying and Stimulating Prior Knowledge on Moodle
Overview: This initial phase is designed to assess and activate students’ existing knowledge before introducing new content. Conducted on Moodle, students engage in diagnostic and interactive activities that revisit key concepts to ensure they are ready to learn about the business plan and the sales pitch. If the diagnostic activity suggests that students need more work before starting the Train sections, they will be directed towards more optional activities.
Activities:
Diagnostic tasks
Review talking about large numbers
Learn tips about participating in a show like The Dragons' Den
Self-assessment quiz.
Goal: Ensure students have a foundational understanding of the topic and are ready to build new skills in the TRAIN phase.
STEP 2: TRAIN – Building Skills Through Interactive Practice on Moodle
Overview: This phase bridges the gap between prior knowledge and immersive VR practice. Students build confidence and fluency through structured, interactive tasks that prepare students for real-world business communication. In this module, students will be introduced to grammar, vocabulary, and business concepts related to the business plan and the sales pitch.
***There are 3 interactive books: the Common Book, which teaches core concepts, and 2 other books that feature a company so that students may practice core concepts seen in the Common Book. Students should only choose 1 company, either Cozy Quarters or Golden Greens. They will then choose the same company as their Moodle choice for their VR experience.
Activities:
Learn how to use high-impact adjectives and marketing strategies, as well as how to use a business plan to persuade the Lions to invest in your company effectively.
Engage in activities such as
Actively watching interactive videos that test listening comprehension;
Reading comprehension quizzes;
Fill-in-the-blank exercises;
Vocabulary building
Speaking and recording information about products.
Choosing marketing strategies.
Pair work for practicing asking and answering questions about the business plan.
STEP 3: Virtual Reality: Experiencing Real-World Scenarios
It is essential for students to complete STEPS 1 and 2 on Moodle before starting STEP 3, the virtual reality experience on Uptale.
Take the time to review the Briefing and Debriefing Guide with the students. The Briefing section provides essential information about the overall context and various levels of the experience. This will help to ensure a successful and enjoyable VR experience.
There are 2 levels for this experience: intermediate and advanced. They are both very similar. The intermediate level has 3 fewer questions and accepts more hesitations or mispronunciations. The advanced level has 3 more questions about the business plan and demands more fluency. Students should only choose 1 level.
The Lions' Den offers the most challenging experience of all the themes. It enables students to apply business concepts and communication strategies while consolidating knowledge and skills acquired in previous modules or in-class.
OBJECTIVES:
Participate in the hit show The Lions' Den and convince the Lions to invest in your business.
VR CONTEXT:
The student plays the role of the business owner of either Cozy Quarters or Golden Greens.
How It Works: For both Cozy Quarters and Golden Greens, students will engage in reading and interpreting documents, test their listening comprehension, consolidate the grammar seen in the Moodle training, and harness their speaking skills to convince the Lions to invest in their company.
Cozy Quarters
Taking on the role of the owner of Cozy Quarters, a tiny home construction company, students will participate in the hit show, The Lions' Den. They will be asked to make a successful sales pitch and answer questions about their business plan.

Golden Greens
Taking on the role of the owner of Golden Greens, a natural, organic food product company, students will participate in the hit show, The Lions' Den. They will be asked to make a successful sales pitch and answer questions about their business plan.

A look at some of the Moodle activities and Virtual Reality
experience
Throughout the VR experience, students complete short quizzes and decision-making tasks to reinforce learning and demonstrate mastery of the content.
Remind the students that they can always click on the EXIT sign to proceed. However, they will not accumulate STARS.
Review the Briefing and Debriefing Guide before starting this activity to ensure a smooth facilitation process.
Briefing: Contains information about the objectives of each level, as well as any documents to interpret, and professional communication skills students will apply.
Print out the peer evaluations (found in the Briefing and Debriefing Guide) to hand out before the VR experience.
Debriefing: Allow time for partners to give peer feedback. Make a copy of the self-evaluation form and send the link to students. The self-evaluation encourages students to reflect on their learning process and helps them to set communication goals.
