To ensure students are well-prepared before starting the STEP 3 (Experience), we’ve designed appropriation scenes that serve as an introductory experience. These scenes help students become comfortable with the VR headset and controllers, mainly if they’ve never used this type of equipment before.
Purpose of the Appropriation Scenes:
Familiarization with VR Equipment:
Students learn how to properly wear and adjust the headset, use the controllers, and navigate within the virtual environment. This reduces anxiety and builds confidence before they begin the core modules.
Practice with Quiz Format:
Within these scenes, students engage in quiz-style activities that mirror the format used in the modules. This allows them to get used to answering questions and interacting with content in VR, making the transition into STEP 3 smoother and more intuitive.
Instructions for Teachers to Share with Students
Please guide students through the following steps before they begin their VR experience:
Choose an Experience
Please inform students that both VR experiences are available to everyone.
If a student is new to virtual reality or is currently at an English level of 100 or 101, recommend they begin with the first experience.
If a student is already familiar with VR equipment or is at an English level of 102 or 103, suggest they try the second experience.
Learn to Use the Equipment
Remind students to follow the instructions provided in class to learn how to properly use the VR headset and controllers.
Reflect and Discuss
After completing the experience, students should fill out the Debriefing Grid and participate in a class discussion to reflect on what they learned and how they felt during the activity.
