This year, eight graders from 30 schools around the country participated in the project. They received an additional hour per week to learn about topics such as Global Warming , floods, hurricanes and map skills. The English teacher and the geography teacher taught in the same classroom. Students worked both individually and collaboratively on tasks such as ‘The Race to Mars’, ‘Celestial Bodies’ and ‘Exploring Venus’. Special focus was given to using digital collaborative tools to present information. Teachers who participated in the program took a 60- hour online course given by both the Geography and English counselors. The course goals were twofold: to enrich teachers’ knowledge on the geographical content and to suggest pedagogical ways to teach it in the classroom.
