[Ethnic Restaurant @ Melaka]
A restaurant can be more than a place to eat. It can serve more than the food and drinks.
This project is an "Ethnic Restaurant in Melaka" at the core heritage zone of the Melaka World Heritage Site. Since the long historical records, Melaka is an important trading port located along the Straits of Malacca that brings in multi-ethnic, multi-culture merchants and people of other trades who came to settle and form up a unique local society that is very rich in culture. Not the least in their culture is food, engaging cuisine (way of cooking) and dining (way of eating) at the center of society living.
Students will interpret from the context, site study, people and food especially in Melaka to define and design an ethnic restaurant that can further enrich the culinary experience and myriad of cultural images of the Melaka World Heritage Site. Students can choose with proper justification a single ethnic or multi-ethnic to represent their design scheme. Other design requirements to follow the Common Studio Design Matrix for Year 2.
