You are invited to join the voyage of this Workbase to "indulge" the past and "predict" the future of our proposed Centre. Melaka harboured many communities of merchants since the beginning of 15th Century becoming a 'Melting Pot' in many unique kind of heritage for us to preserve and refresh.
The proposed Melaka River Crafts and Souvenir Centre shall look deep inside into the following:
Genius loci of the place - the history - the river - where monsoons meet; and when the culture intermingled and blended.
Identify the crafts item born from these melting pot which are worth to be preserved as Melaka's proud heritage.
Contemporary architecture with the spirit of the vernacular heritage.
This Centre will nestles between buildings in a storey premis consists of a display area, cashier cum, imformation counter, workshops, administrative office, pantry, store, prayer room and toilets. Besides introducing the cultural craft as sellable souvenirs, the knowledge and experience can also be enhanced and shared through workshop sessions to ensure the continuity of the heritage crafts. Thus you as a student is challanged to express your creativity to manifest the architecture of this place. The design of this Crafts and Souvenir Centre shall be responsive towards cultural and art of the selected subject or object to be exhibited and displayed. The theme and the architectural language should portray a contemporary vernacular vibes that addresses the cultural context of Melaka respectively and the gist of the Centre specifically.
Just choose the crafts, be in love with the subject, interpret and manifest it through the architecture.
