Maminosi

oVERVIEW

We developed Maminosi as a project for the "Content for games" class in UFN. Our first task was create a simple mythology based in other two, in our case the Mayan and Slav Myths. We used the concepts of "creating gods based on actions of others" and the idea of "cycle", but we wanted to create myths that somehow matches with the actual concepts of the universe physics, like the expansion of the universe (in our mythology the universe is a fabric that is pulled by four gods, than that is expansion), the fact of the evolution and more.

Even we was using this idea, we didn't want to make something serious, than we started to create "Gods for every single thing" and we thought it was funny, we created the gods of north, south, east and west, the god of music that is even the "god of vibration", the god of gravity who is the god of sculpture etc.

When we had the purpose to create a game with our own mythology, we decided to use the "universe made of fabric" aspect of our myths and, if the whole universe is a fabric that must be a god (or in this case a goddess) of seam to repair this fabric. Then Maminosi was born, as both goddess of seam and repair.

We inspired our game in games like Nidhogg (2014) and Towerfall (2013) for the early concept of the game, and in the Hollow Knight Silk Song (TBA) for the main mechanic of Maminosi.

Story

The two sons of Maminosi, the blue and pink weavers was bored, then they decided to make a competition to see who is the quickest to sew the universe fabric. With this decision they become the gods of sport and competition but, when one of them win this game, it becomes the God of Victory until theirs next joust.

GamePlay

Maminosi is a multiplayer competitive game based on take the "Realistic Reel" to the goddess of seam. To do this, the weavers must sew the universe in order to move through the space.

Once they have the Reel the screen starts to move toward Maminosi and, once the Reel Carrier is defeated they have to take it again to be able to reach their goal.

Art

I made the characters thinking that "they are what they do" so, if they exist to sew they must be just something holding a needle for example. For the background and menu, I used the concept of our universe is a fabric, then it was created to seems like a patchwork. For the tiles the concept of time-space was used, using historic art styles (from Ancient Egypt to Pop Art, or future Alien ship) to create the idea that there ir a lot of time spaces merged together.

The illustrations was made using the app Procreate for iPad Pro.

The musics was made using the app Garage Band for iPad, using the Modern and Classic Chinese loops, in order to create some musics that both matches with a great battle and with a calm menu.
