Northeast Metro Lakes loop
A road ride with a few trail sections.

This is a loop ride to the northeast of Shoreview that passes by White Bear Lake, Bald Eagle Lake, Centerville Lake, and Reshanau Lake. In addition, the ride passes through a portion of Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve.
From Shoreview, the route first goes east to Otter Lake Rd along Hwy 96. The route next goes south and east to Birchwood Village and Mahtomedi on roads. From Mahtomedi, the route next follows Hwy 244 north along the east side of White Bear Lake to Hwy 96 and then to Portland Ave. The route next goes north on Portland Ave turning west on N County Line Rd to Hwy 61. Crossing Hwy 61, the route follows roads along the east side of Bald Eagle Lake. At the north end of the lake, the route turns north on Elmcrest Ave N to E Cedar St where it goes west to Otter Lake Rd. Next, the route goes north on Otter Lake Rd to Main St in Hugo where it turns west and follows Main St to Centreville. The route goes west and north along the east side of Centerville Lake on trail west of the street to the entrance to Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve. The route follows a trail into the park and then turns west on a trail near the Centerville Lake boat launch which leads to W Shadow Lake Rd. Next, the route goes south on W Shadow Lake Rd on the west side of Reshanau Lake to Birch St, turning west to Ware Rd, and then going south back to the Shoreview Community Center.
The route is mostly flat with the exception of a few hilly sections near White Bear Lake and Bald Eagle Lake. The route is mostly on roads with a few sections of trails. Most of the road sections are bike-friendly but the section on Hwy 244 on the east side of the White Bear Lake requires careful attention to car traffic in some spots.
Directions:
From the Shoreview CC, take Hwy 96 east.
Continue east past I-35E to Otter Lake Rd.
Turn south on Otter Lake Rd. and continue to Scheuneman Rd.
Turn east on Scheuneman Rd and then turn south on Hoffman Rd and then east on Cty Rd F.
Cross Hwy 61 and continue east to E County Line Rd.
Turn south on E County Line Rd and go to Cedar St.
Turn east on Cedar St which curves to the southeast and becomes Hall Ave.
Follow Hall Ave to Wildwood Beech Rd and turn northeast onto that road.
Turn right at Ash St and then turn left on Mn Hwy 244 which is Mahtomedi Ave.
Continue north on Mahtomedi Ave and when it bears to the northwest it becomes Dellwood Ave.
Continue on Dellwood Rd to Hwy 96.
Turn west on Hwy 96 and go to Portland Ave.
Turn north on Portland Ave and go to where the road curves west becoming N County Line Rd.
Continue past Hwy 61 and continue on N County Line Rd as it curves north.
Turn west on 122nd St N.
Follow the road as it turns north and becomes Ethan Ave N.
Follow the road when it turns west and becomes 129th St N.
Turn north on Elmcrest Ave N.
Follow the road when its turns west and becomes E Cedar St.
Turn north on Otter Lake Rd and go to Main St.
Turn west on Main St taking the bike path along the south side of the street.
Continue on the path to Centerville.
Stay on the trail until you get to the entrance to the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Reserve.
Follow the trail and road to near the Centerville Lake Boat Launch where you turn west on a trail.
Follow the trail west through the woods to W Shadow Lake Rd.
Turn south on W Shadow Lake Rd and go to Birch St.
Turn west on a trail north of Birch St and go to Ware Rd.
Turn south on Ware Rd and go to Ash St.
Cross Ash St and go south on Mackubin St.
Continue south via a short trail to Stephens Cir.
Turn east on Bucher Ave and then south on Evergreen Ln.
Turn west on Sherwood Rd and then south on Donegal Dr.
Turn west on Turtle Lake Rd and then south on Hodgson Rd.
Leave Hodgson Rd at the Hodgson Rd Connect and go south to Tanglewood Rd.
Turn west and go to Victoria Ave.
Turn south and return to the Shoreview Community Center.
