White Bear Lake

A road and trail ride.

This is a loop ride from Shoreview that goes around White Bear Lake. The route first goes on Hwy 96 east to White Bear Lake. The route follows Lake Ave along the west coast of White Bear Lake and then continues on Hwy 96 and Hwy 244 around the lake passing through Dellwood and Mahtomedi. The route then continues west through Birchwood Village and White Bear Lake to return to Hwy 96 and then Shoreview. Most of the route is on roads with the only trail section being along Lake Ave. Most of the road sections are bike-friendly but the section on Hwy 244 on the east side of the lake requires careful attention to car traffic in some spots.


Directions:

  • From the Shoreview CC, take Hwy 96 east.

  • Continue east past I-35E to Otter Lake Rd.

  • Turn south on Otter Lake Rd. and continue to Scheuneman Rd.

  • Turn east on Scheuneman Rd and then turn south on Hoffman Rd and then east on Cty Rd F.

  • Cross Hwy 61 and continue east to E County Line Rd.

  • Turn south on E County Line Rd and go to Cedar St.

  • Turn east on Cedar St which curves to the southeast and becomes Hall Ave.

  • Follow Hall Ave to Wildwood Beech Rd and turn northeast onto that road.

  • Turn right at Ash St and then turn left on Mn Hwy 244 which is Mahtomedi Ave.

  • Continue north on Mahtomedi Ave and when it bears to the northwest it becomes Dellwood Ave.

  • Continue on Dellwood Rd to Hwy 96.

  • Turn west on Hwy 96 and continue to the entrance to White Bear Lake County Park.

  • Turn into the park and take the trail that leads to Lake Ave.

  • Continue on the trail adjacent to Lake Ave to Hwy 61.

  • Cross Hwy 61 to Hwy 96.

  • Continue west on Hwy 96 and return to the Shoreview CC.
