In a strategic move for the 2025 Formula One season, Yuki Tsunoda has been appointed as the reserve driver for Oracle Red Bull Racing. This decision underscores Red Bull’s confidence in Tsunoda’s abilities and highlights his integral role within the team’s driver development program.

Tsunoda’s journey to this pivotal position has been marked by rapid progression and notable achievements. After an impressive stint in Formula 2, he debuted in Formula 1 with AlphaTauri in 2021. Over the subsequent seasons, Tsunoda honed his skills and showcased his potential, leading to his current role as a primary driver for Racing Bulls, Red Bull’s sister team, alongside rookie Isack Hadjar. 

The 2025 season has seen significant shifts within the Red Bull driver lineup. Liam Lawson has been promoted to partner with Max Verstappen at the main Red Bull Racing team, following the departure of Sergio Pérez. This promotion is a testament to Lawson’s impressive performances and the depth of talent within Red Bull’s development program. 

In his capacity as reserve driver, Tsunoda will be on standby to step into the Red Bull Racing seat if either Verstappen or Lawson is unable to compete.
