Week Two chaos has come and gone, and with it, we’ve been given a whole new outlook on the Top 25. For the first time all season, we have a team not named LSU (8-3) at #1. The #1 Vanderbilt (9-2) Commodores slide up to the top spot, followed by #2 Oregon State (10-1), moving up two spots. #3 UCLA (9-2) and #4 North Carolina (11-1) stand pat, and #5 Stanford (9-2), coming off a series win at Cal State Fullerton (5-4), rounds out the top five.
This week’s biggest riser is #9 Texas (10-3), who shot up 13 spots after sweeping then #1 LSU in Austin. The Tigers are one spot behind the Longhorns at #10. Other notable risers are #23 South Carolina (9-2), who moves up ten spots after taking two out of three against #25 Clemson (8-3), and #21 Texas A&M (11-2), who moves up nine spots coming off a sweep at the Shriners College Classic.
LSU, falling nine spots, dropped the most in the polls, but just behind were #22 Baylor (9-2) and #25 Clemson who each took eight spot tumbles. Baylor squeaked out a Sunday win against Texas State (7-4), 5-4, at the Shriners College Classic to avoid going 0-3 in the tournament, and pollsters didn’t take kindly the Clemson’s aforementioned loss to South Carolina.
