RPI: Week Eight

The SEC is again top dog in the Conference Power Rankings with an average team ranking of 21.2. An SEC series is now, on average, a battle of top 25 teams, and the SEC currently has six of the top ten teams in the RPI. Whoever is left out of the tournament from the SEC will have to wonder what could have been if they were in an easier conference.

The Big XII (average of 49.9) comes in at number two this week. A resurgence of Baylor and TCU have made the Big XII look like a possible seven-bid league. The top seven teams in conference are all within 2.5 games of each other, so there is still plenty of room for jockeying for position in the conference standings.

The #3 Pac-12 (59.8) continues to be bolstered by a dominant top few teams in conference. After Oregon at #28, there is a large jump to #61 USC. There is a possibility for the Pac-12 to send six teams to the tournament, but someone in the bottom half of the conference will have to make a move soon.

At number four in this week's Conference Power Rankings, the ACC (68.4) continues to be dragged down by Pittsburgh. The ACC minus Pitt has a team average ranking of 56.1, and the conference's middle of the pack continues to see improvement.

Just behind the ACC is the American Conference (78.7). East Carolina leads the way for the American in RPI at #16, but even the bottom of the conference is dangerous. Cincinnati traveled to Connecticut this past weekend and took two out of three against the Huskies.
