The theme of today's session was ''Adapting and extending textbook activities''. I learned that there are three tips for adapting textbook materials. 1. Jigsaw( each group gets a piece of a puzzle). 2. Modify: add, delete, reorganise and extend).3. Adapt ( due to cultural reasons). At the beginning of the session, ESN Coach Jode Brexa had a Jigsaw activity with us. The name of this activity was ''Island Survival''. It was wonderful. This activity made us more interested to read, helped us to connect the text with real- life and gave us a chance to use language in other different ways. Then RPMs Tamila Prokayeva and Kholida showed us creative student-centred activities connected to the textbook activities. To sum up, I can say that the main goal of adapting and extending textbook activities is to promote communication in English and get our students excited to learn.
Reflection.
In this session, I learned a lot of interesting things about how to adapt or extend textbook activities through Jigsaw reading, Modifying and Adapting. In the 5 forms on the topic: ''Habitat is home''. It would be better to adapt Exercise 3c, for asking and answering the questions. I tried to use the ''Fluency line'' activity. I asked my pupils to stand in two lines faced to each other. In the first line, students should say about the animals and in the second line, pupils should say about their habitats. This activity helped me to check my pupils' knowledge and practise new vocabulary. ''Fluency line'' activity became usual in my everyday's lesson.
